I'm Back
Hello All,
I am finally back at school and near a computer, so there shouldn't be any more prolonged absenses. I had thought of so many topics to comment on over break but unfortunately I have since forgotten them.
So that leaves me with old news. The recent tsunami disaster in the Far East has shown how generous people can be, and thats great. Canada has donated a great deal of money and has dispatched the DART team, which is intended for rescue/humanitarian missions such as this.
Now I am all in favor of sending these guys, but am deeply embarrassed at the length of time (2 weeks) it took to dispatch a "rapid reaction" team. I know there are a lot of logistics involved, but my goodness. When we have to rent planes from Russia to send our troops overseas, then we are deep trouble. To me this is just another in a long string of embarrassments for the Canadian government stemming from our woefully underfunded military.
Even when they are doing rescue work that most liberal Canadians salivate over, the army still can't get there on its own. To me this is just sad. Small European nations (Denmark et al) had teams overseas and up and running before we had even left. Though I highly doubt it, maybe this is the wakeup call that our government needs to start funding the armed forces (and to split them back into army, navy and air force).
Alright, I'm out. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
