Hey everyone,
I must apologize for my prolonged absense. I was very disheartened over yet another Liberal win in the Canadian elections in June and the death knell that said win sounded for Canada. Another few years of a Liberal arrogance and socialized spending will likely put Canada in a hole far too deep to dig itself out. Luckily, I am now living stateside and attending law school in North Dakota. Canada will still remain my favorite third world country!
Alot has transpired since my last post, the Liberal win in the election, a chilly and boring summer, Canada's win at the World Cup of Hockey and the subsequent lock-out of NHL players. So many topics to talk about and catch up on. My goodness, where to begin.
As mentioned, I am now south of 49 and caught up in election fever. My law school classmates never fail to provide lively banter of the political persuasion and are always interested at why I, as a Canadian, am such a fan of GW. (I don't use fan lightly, I really am).
I do my best to explain what decades of small-l liberal rule will do to a country. Sure it all sounds good, but no seems to notice the slow but steady degradation to a country's infrastructure, military and world standing at the expense of UN style socialist policies.
Naturally, this enthralls the Republicans and throws the Democrats into the defensive, then quickly to the offensive. Its all the usual stuff about no blood for oil, and you are lucky that you don't have an idiot running the country. (They are blissfully ignorant of Mr. Chretien). My explanation of the good GW is doing in the world is not 100% appreciated, but tolerated nonetheless.
You see, I have a theory that in 20 years or so, when one has the gift of hindsight, everyone will say they really actually liked George W. and appreciate how he stopped the spread of terrorism and made the world safer. It will be something akin to the outpouring of affection that came from both sides when President Reagan died. People that loathed Reagan while he was alive were suddenly old buddies shedding a tear at his passing. Of course it was very chic to be a Reaganite this summer, and those same people who claimed Reagan had nothing to do with the downfall of the pinko Commies were now lauding his efforts to bring down the wall.
The very same thing will happen with GW. When the Iraq mess has sorted itself out in time (this was a war after all) and democracy takes hold in the Middle East, there will be great stampede to get on the Bush train because to be left behind will be akin to being a sad and tired old Communist or Nazi after these vile regimes crumbled. No one will want to admit that they doubted Georgie nor will they be happy when history records them as having sided with the terrorists (I am looking right at you Messrs. France and Germany).
Trust me, this going to happen. For my dollar, W is a modern day Churchill with less speaking ability. He stands nearly alone against the world warning against the evil of terrorism while other countries climb over one another to get into Neville Chamberlain's shoes and declare peace in our time.
